About Via
Via Carpenter is the founder and owner of Via’s Cookies. She first started baking and selling her own cookies in high school as a way to raise funds to help her pursue art and track without burdening her family with the additional costs. She created her own recipe which helped her sales skyrocket and pushed her to being voted class president.
With her success in high school came backlash from racist classmates and the school who argued that her cookie sales disrupted the lunch sales. This is when Via started thinking about racism and the unfair treatment her family faced as the only Black girl in her grade. These events led to her passion for making a change in the world.
College opened Via’s eyes to social justice, equity, and equality and the present injustices in America. Through these experiences she decided to open her cookie business back up and use it for good. It started with exalting education for people with less resources so she could help open other students eyes to the truths that she otherwise would not have learned.
Today Via doesn’t only make delicious cookies, she makes an impact. They employ people from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, source sustainable and local ingredients, use recyclable packaging, and are operated entirely by women. They also donate 5% of profits to struggling BIPOC & LGBTQ+ College students.
“It’s important to us to talk the talk and walk the walk. We’re not doing any of this for show. We’re doing this because we care about humanity, the earth, and the future. Join us! Eat cookies and do good. What else is there to live for?!”
