The Potsdam Food Co-op launched the “Good Food” voucher program to provide grocery assistance to individuals and families experiencing hardship. Vouchers are purchased by generous community members. The vouchers are then given directly to the Potsdam Neighborhood Center, who distributes them to individuals and families in need. The Co-op also provides an additional 10% discount for purchases made with these vouchers. Providing these vouchers for groceries and other necessities allows for more flexibility for the person to choose the items that they truly need, especially those with food sensitivities or specific diets, and removes the burden of managing the program from the Neighborhood Center.
why contribute?

-

-
Individuals and families benefit by being able to choose food items to fit their needs and buy items not otherwise available at the center.

-
No. Because this program is managed by the Potsdam Food Co-op and money is not directly donated to the Neighborhood Center to make purchases with, but instead given as a voucher to distribute, purchases of these vouchers are not considered a charitable donation and therefore are not tax deductible for the purchaser. If you would like to make a charitable donation to the organization, you can do so directly.
-
While we started this program in response to the government shutdown, we plan to continue it as long as possible.
-
While the Co-op manages the funds used to purchase the vouchers, distribution is entirely up to the Potsdam Neighborhood Center. If you are someone in need of food assistance, we encourage you to visit the center and request a voucher.
